(Stories of Hope, Resiliency and Restoration - English)
Benedic was jailed for a VAWC (Violence Against Women and Children) case after his former partner accused him of physical abuse. The conflict began when she asked him for ₱700 to cover her rent, but he refused. In anger, she threw stones at his house. Benedict's mother came out, leading to a heated argument between her and his former partner. When Benedict stepped in to stop the altercation, he was eventually accused and charged with VAWC.
He spent five months in Navotas City Jail, from July to November 2024. At the time of his arrest, he had recently resigned as a coke dicer at one of the largest grocery stores in Malabon. He and his former partner, whose gambling addiction strained their relationship, had been together for three years before parting on bad terms. Their two children remained in his care.
Life in jail was difficult, but it led Benedic to find God. He learned to pray, especially when he missed his children. He actively participated in jail programs, including Bible studies, and realized an important life lesson: choosing the right partner is crucial to one’s happiness and peace of mind.

Seeking legal assistance, Benedic turned to the BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology), which referred him to PRESO Inc. Since this was his first offense and he had no prior criminal record, he qualified for the Community Bail Bond Program. With the help of PRESO Inc., his case was dismissed, and he was freed in November 2024.
Now 26 years old, Benedic is determined to rebuild his life. He had previously studied culinary arts but was unable to finish his degree. His dream is to save up and open a carinderia. In the meantime, he works as a room attendant at a hotel, striving to provide a better future for his children while hoping to complete his studies.

Benedic is immensely grateful to PRESO Inc., recognizing that without their help, he might still be in jail. He acknowledges PRESO Inc. as the only hope for PDLs (Persons Deprived of Liberty) who have nothing in life—first-time offenders who are willing to change for the better. He also hopes that those given a second chance through PRESO Inc.'s Community Bail Bond Program will make the most of their freedom and never find themselves behind bars again.
With a renewed sense of purpose, Benedic is now focused on self-improvement, financial stability, and being a responsible father to his 7- and 3-year-old children.
