Commemorating National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW)

From October 21-27, the entire nation commemorated the annual National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW).

NACOCOW aims to raise the level of consciousness and promote awareness in both public and private sectors on the plight of detainees or Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) under he safekeeping of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and other agencies under the Corrections Pillar. It also serves to make an impact on the re-socialization process of every PDL for their eventual reintegration to the society.

This year's theme was entitled: "Makataong Pakikitungo, Matinong Pamumuno at Matatag Prinsipyo Tungo sa Maunlad na Serbisyong Pampiitan".

PRESO, Inc. took part in the week-long affair with donations of underwear and other essential supplies at Manila City Jail Male Dorm, Navotas City Jail Male Dorm and Valenzuela City Jail Male Dorm. Through our partner, Mary Help of Christians, Holy Mass and feeding activities were conducted at Paranaque City Jail Male and Female Dorms and MMDJ Annex 6.

We likewise contributed to a feeding activity held by all the service providers of Pasay City Jail Male Dorm. Lastly, we conducted a feeding activity for 120 PDL at the new Quezon City Jail Male Dorm.

We would like to extend our appreciation to all the service providers who have continuously supported the various jails and detention facilities as well as to all jail officers and staff for their dedication and commitment to maintaining a peaceful and safe environment allowed our PDL and guests to enjoy a week filled with learning, growth, and camaraderie. The success of NACOCOW 2024 is a reflection of your professionalism and compassion.

Let us all continue to work together toward a future where dignity, respect, and understanding are the cornerstones of our collective mission for the benefit of PDL.
