Community Bail Bond Update - June 16, 2020

Updated: Sep 12, 2020

Since launching the Community Bail Bond Philippines of the PRESO INC in May 1, 2020, the program has now bailed out 6 Persons Deprived of Liberties. The participants are 4 low risk mothers and 2 young male adults who were charged with gambling (tongits) and theft. All are first time individuals in conflict with the law. Their bail ranges from PhP 2,000 to PhP 15,000.

Since their release, our volunteers have conducted multiple monitoring phone calls (due to Covid limitations) and home visitations (when quarantine was lifted). The next step is to refer the participants to local agencies, NGOs, and other willing partners for sustainable employment.

The biggest catch: The Government has now saved PhP10,920 for savings in food costs alone. These savings will grow until their cases are terminated. This will also grow as more PDLs become participants in the program.
