Last October 27, 2024 the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Prison Pastoral Care (CBCP-ECPPC) held its annual Prison Awareness Sunday commemoration throughout the country as Sunday Masses gave particular attention to the plight of our brothers and sisters in jails and prisons. This year's theme was "Ang Simbahan Katuwang ang VIPS: Kaagapay sa Pagbabagong Punong-Puno ng Pag-Asa".
The annual Gawad Paglilingkod Awards were also held at the Shrine of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Newport Zone, Pasay City. The award is given to those who have made exemplary contributions to the prison ministry and among the recipients this year were three PRESO, Inc. partners.
Mr. Ernesto Bengzon and Ms. Melody Cruz of Techvoc Skills Inc. have been providing TESDA NC-II skills trainings to PDL at Manila, Caloocan, Makati, and Taguig City Jails since 2018.
Sr. Tammy Saberon of the Missionary Sisters of St. Columban has been providing spiritual guidance, vocational training, and compassionate support at Quezon City and Manila City Jails since 2014.
They, as well as the other Gawad Paglilingkod awardees exemplify the mission of the Catholic Church to serve the marginalized and forgotten.
