Last June 16 & 17, we were finally able to conduct our first in-person seminar-workshop since 2019. Entitled "Principles of Effective Volunteerism in Corrections", the workshop was conduced for jail and prison volunteers/service providers. The aim of the two-day activity was four-fold: 1. Help volunteers/service providers in jail and prison facilities gain a better understanding of criminal behavior and the concepts criminogenic risks and needs; 2. Stress the significance of PDL/inmate classification and risk assessment and how it influences intervention program delivery; 3. Introduce the importance of a modular approach in intervention that spells out the philosophy, content, and manner of delivery of a particular program, including its evaluation and monitoring; 4. Instill the need for closer coordination with correctional management and other service providers in developing an integrated/ holistic program for PDL. A total of 58 participants from 16 organizations took part in the seminar-workshop. In addition, 5 representatives from the BJMP also took part and gave their perspectives as jail officers in their desire to provide holistic welfare and development programs for PDL. The BJMP's upper management also gave their full support with messages from the BJMP NCR Regional Director, Chief Superintendent Luisito C. Muñoz, and BJMP Chief, Director Allan S. Iral.
