Reintegration after Life in Detention

Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) face numerous challenges upon release. The stigma of being a former detainee, prisoner or convict looms large when they apply for jobs. They are also considered the usual suspects by law enforcement agencies when crimes happen in the neighborhood. And for some released PDLs, they have challenges finding a place to sleep and a food to eat.

With our Community Bail Bond program, we have now assisted 38 newly released individuals, whom we call Persons of Restored Liberty (PRLs) overcome the challenges of reintegration. Specifically, we provide livelihood, medical and educational assistance to participants and their family members to ease the strains of going back to their communities. We are fortunate to partner with the El Proveedores Foundation to provide the much needed resources.

This photo shows three of our participants receiving livelihood assistance. They will use the money to jump start their businesses. The capital they loaned from the program will be returned when they are able. They will also be provided with counselling and mentoring programs as they move along.

We wish them all luck. For if they succeed, the society gains.
