Do you know how much it costs to put a PDL in BJMP jail or Bucor Prison and how much it costs to supervise that same PDL in probation or parole? Well, I visited the General Appropriations Website for the year 2022 to get the annual budget for each the three agencies (Parole and Probation Administration, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the Bureau of Corrections). I also visited their websites to determine the number of clients in 2022. Using basic arithmetic, I divided the annual budget by the number of clients to get the budget per client per year for each agency. The data speaks for itself. Do you know that if we maximize the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA), we can reduce the cost of jail and prison expenses by Php 5 Billion annually, even if we increase the budget of PPA from 1 billion to 5 billion pesos?
